Prince Harry Coming Home
- Posted by Justin Higgins on February 29th, 2008 in
Yesterday, in my Must-Reads, I used the word "Commitment" to describe Prince Harry going to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, due to Drudge, his commitment has been cut short by several weeks. I have to echo some of the sentiments being expressed at Hot Air:
Sky defence correspondent Geoff Meade said it could take at least 24 hours to bring him back to the UK.
He added: “There will be a degree of frustration - not least from the Prince himself - and anger.”
But he said that Harry had proved himself as a solider and, with media support, future deployments to war zones would be possible.
On one hand, we have the Taliban trying to spin this as a piece of propaganda for their side, and on the other, angry milbloggers. Drudge has dropped the ball on this one, and we have to wonder, if he's willing to sell out the British troops for a scoop, does he respect America's troops?
Talking to the Bad Guys

You're either with us, or against us. Britain is with us, the Taliban is against us, and there's no gray area, at least according to the "Bush Doctrine." Unfortunately, our allies aren't exactly keen on the black & white nature of the Bush Doctrine. Instead, they're choosing to pander, lie, and schmooze with our enemies. Hot Air has the tale of Gordon Brown:
An intelligence source said: “The SIS officers were understood to have sought peace directly with the Taliban with them coming across as some sort of armed militia. The British would also provide ‘mentoring’ for the Taliban.”
The disclosure comes only a fortnight after the Prime Minister told the House of Commons: “We will not enter into any negotiations with these people.”
Opposition leaders said that Mr Brown had “some explaining to do”.
The Taliban isn't like some militia groups in Iraq, fighting as part of some sectarian conflict. The Taliban was directly allied with al-Qaeda, provided material support for the group that directly trained the 9/11 hijackers, and was led by a man who sat in with Osama Bin Laden on a regular basis. There can be no reconciliation, because if there is, there is no justice. Britain needs to sign onto the Bush Doctrine, especially if we plan on winning this war together.
News: Britain, Bombs, and Radical Islam

Since I was right in the middle of my blogging break when all of the big news came out of the U.K., I wanted to give my readers a full rundown of what happened. To your right, you'll see a simple news breakdown of the event. For more details, keep reading.
From the website Hot Air- On Friday, June 29th, two cars loaded with gasoline, canisters, and nails were found. They were basically rigged to be grenades that would explode and send shrapnel (nails and chunks of metal) flying to kill those near the car.
“An eyewitness said a man had crashed the vehicle into bins near a nightclub and then ran off.” Gasoline, gas canisters, and that old favorite — nails — were found in the car, along with “a potentially explosive device.”
Using London's closed circuit television program, a man-hunt began for the man seen parking one of the cars. There was immediate talk that the attack was linked to Al-Qaeda, and of course people were looking for a muslim man. Their assumptions would be confirmed the next day, as an airport in Glasgow Scotland was rammed with a flaming car filled with canisters of gasoline. This time, let's turn to Little Green Footballs:
Eyewitness on Sky TV: Car was full of gas cans. Driver and passenger were throwing gasoline all around the scene after they crashed the SUV into the terminal door. After ramming an airport gate, the guy charged the terminal with flames beginning to burst from the vehicle, angling it in order to best ram through the glass terminal door and kill passengers inside. One man from the vehicle burst into flames. Amidst the fire and chaos, the terrorists were wrestled to the ground by taxi drivers and passengers.
Initial reports were confusing, with some saying it was some sort of sick car accident, but it became pretty clear pretty quickly that this was a terrorism attack. The "asian men" (as described in British news) that they captured turned out to be muslim terrorists. Who would of guessed? A video, from Sky News:
Finally, going back to Hot Air, more details on the Glasgow Bombing. One of the most shocking things to come out of the entire incident is the photo to the right. It shows the terrorist, wearing a boiler suit and having plastic bags over his shoes, which is a uniform designed for a flaming suicide attack. The photo appeared in The Sunday Mail. Terror in Britain.
What's It Mean to Us?
Simply put, these types of suicide attacks and car bombs are bad news for the West. We all know that Al-Qaeda wants to attack the United States, and we've managed to foil some spectacular attacks in the past few years. Instead of huge attacks though, could we stop dozens of smaller attacks, like car bomb attacks? That's the new thing to look out for.
Blair Exiting

Tony Blair, the Prime Minister of Britain, is stepping down from his position of power. I think when history looks back at him, they'll look at his contribution to the Global War on Terror. From Voice of America News:
British Prime Minister Tony Blair is due to announce his intention to resign after 10 years in power.
Mr. Blair will make his plans public today at his constituency of Sedgefield, in northeastern England. Earlier, he met with Cabinet ministers in London.
Labor Party officials say Mr. Blair plans to step down as party leader and prime minister in about seven weeks. Finance Minister Gordon Brown is Mr. Blair's likely successor.
I really know nothing about Gordon Brown, but I plan on finding out more. Hopefully Britain can stay the strong ally she is. We'll see. Updates later.
