Hamas

Yet Another Reason to Bomb Iran

I've long been a proponent of military intervention against Iran, though not a ground forces invasion. As evidence builds that Iran is interfering in Iraq and is a major player behind terrorist groups like Hezbollah, we need to consider action. The newest development is that Iran isn't only behind Hezbollah, but they're training fighters for the terrorist group Hamas:

ROTR- Hamas, Backed by IranThe Hamas commander, however, confirmed for the first time that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard has been training its men in Tehran for more than two years and is currently honing the skills of 150 fighters.

The details he gave suggested that, if anything, Shin Bet has underestimated the extent of Iran’s influence on Hamas’s increasingly sophisticated tactics and weaponry.

Speaking on the record but withholding his identity as a target of Israeli forces, the commander, who has a sparse moustache and oiled black hair, said Hamas had been sending fighters to Iran for training in both field tactics and weapons technology since Israeli troops pulled out of the Gaza strip of Palestinian territory in 2005. Others go to Syria for more basic training.

To analyze this, Iran has the power to launch a two-front war on Israel, as pointed out in that post. Add to that Iran's backing of Shi'ite militias in Iraq, and their backing of al-Qaeda in Iraq, and Iran now has the power to influence wars against both major powers for Democracy in the region, Israel and the United States. Military action needs to be on the table, because obviously the upper eschelon of Iranian leadership is behind this.

Israel Under Fire

A lot of eyes are on the Middle East recently, and for good reason. Two Katyushu rockets fell into the town of Kiryat Shmona yesterday, and Hezbollah says they weren't involved, but sources also say the rockets flew from Southern Lebanon, and we all remember last summer's war. The Jerusalem Post has the story:

For the first time since the Second Lebanon War, northern Israel came under rocket fire when two Katyushas hit Kiryat Shmona on Sunday evening.

Hizbullah immediately denied responsibility and IDF sources said it was possible the rockets were fired by Palestinians affiliated with Hamas or al-Qaida.

A high-ranking IDF officer in the Northern Command said Israel would demand that UNIFIL fulfill its mandate to prevent attacks on Israel.

UNIFIL, as a UN force, is absolutely worthless in a time of need. When the Second Lebanon War began, UNIFIL forces were photographed in the same shots with Hezbollah fighters, and actively ran and hid, as opposed to stopping the violence. Watch for heat out of Jerusalem.

LGF Covers Civil War in "Palestine"

Big news was breaking all day today out of the Middle East, regarding the civil war between Fatah (radical terrorists) and Hamas (really radical terrorists). It's looking like Hamas, the much more militant and anti-Israel faction (not to say Fatah isn't anti-Israel), has came out on top, dominating Gaza. Since I didn't stay on top with updates, here's the latest from Little Green Footballs-

Hamas to Convert Fatah 'Security' Building Into Mosque

Tomorrow I'm going to be covering the events more extensively, and hopefully getting some reactions from influential War on Terror bloggers and Middle East experts. I may also propose an "action plan" of my own for the region. Stay tuned.
