A Maverick I Could Vote For

John McCain is running to the right, and the important thing for us to do is hold his feet to the fire. Two things I've read today have me convinced that I can vote for John McCain over Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, and do it without too many reservations. First off, Bryan Preston received a phone call that sounded like this:

ROTR- Could You Vote McCain?McCAIN: Hi, this is Senator John McCain and I’m calling today to personally ask for your vote and to make a pledge to you. As your president, I promise to lead our nation and our party as a Ronald Reagan conservative. I’ll lower your taxes, veto wasteful government spending and ensure our party returns to the smaller government principles on which it began. I’ll secure our border first before pursuing any other immigration reform. I’ll appoint conservative judges, like Justices Alito and Roberts. I will protect the sanctity of life and have a 24 year record to prove it. This is my commitment to you. As you go to the polls, consider our greatest challenge as a nation is to defeat the relentless enemy of radical Islamic extremists. My life experience has prepared me better than any other candidate to defeat this enemy. We can and will win this war. Again this is John McCain and I humbly ask you to vote for me.

Bryan says if this was his first impression of John McCain, itd be easy to vote for him, but since it's not he'll be voting Romney. When I cast my first vote ever, in Ohio's Primary, I will probably do the same. That doesn't change the fact that I believe McCain is our inevitable nominee and I'm planning on voting for him. From the other side, LGF has an e-mail from Howard Dean posted:

On immigration reform, he’s run as far to the right as he can, aligning himself with the most extreme elements of the Republican Party.

On the war, McCain scoffed at Bush’s call to leave troops in Iraq for 50 years, saying “Make it a hundred!”

On a woman’s right to choose, McCain has vowed to appoint judges who would overturn Roe v. Wade.

The only thing scary about the Dean e-mail is that they plan on using the economy against him, but if Romney were the nominee, they'd use his conversions against him. Every candidate has baggage. If Dean is so radically opposed to McCain however, that's another positive. I'm willing to vote for this John McCain, if he continues running this way.

Reminder: Tomorrow is February 7th and we know who our future nominee is.
