Unabashed Conservatism

Justin Higgins — Mon, 2007-06-11 13:56

I have just finished my Junior year in High School, and it seems like every year, I become a stronger, more outspoken Conservative. Since my teachers decide not to keep politics out of the classroom, I will gladly debate it there, and in the lunchroom, and in the hallways, and wherever else liberalism decides to rear its ugly head. What does it mean, however, to truly be an unabashed Conservative?

1. An unabashed Conservative will argue with a teacher for suggesting that Conservatism is close-minded, and a liberal education system should have more emphasis on liberal than education.

2. An unabashed Conservative can be confident that they're teaching more to the class through factual discussion than the teacher is teaching through her lesson plan.

3. When a school newspaper puts out a piece swamped with liberal propaganda, the unabashed Conservative will respond, with information and a good strategy of revealing the truth. They'll also employ tools like MySpace to make sure the response doesn't fall on deaf ears.

4. When a teacher tells the unabashed Conservative that he was out of line for responding to the liberal propaganda, he'll gladly point out the hypocrisy in the teacher's argument, and cry free press. He'll even stand up to the teacher when he suggests that the Conservative should "keep his disagreements in his head."

5. An unabashed Conservative will go on a tirade when the principal makes an announcement telling the student body to be more "tolerant" of each other. He'll also call it what it is, liberal bullcrap, to his Hillary-supporting teacher who questions him on it.

6. An unabashed Conservative will go ahead and roll with the punches when teachers put Republican-bashing political cartoons in his locker. He'll also make sure they get great Christmas presents from him when the time is right.

7. An unabashed Conservative will check out the picture the interim principal has with Hillary Clinton. He'll then make a joke about it, asking the principal if "he got pneumonia, from Hillary being so frigid."

8. The unabashed Conservative will not back down, will not shut up, and will not hold himself back due to political correctness. He'll challenge teachers intellectually, find humor in stupid arguments, and keep his cool in the face of adversity. He'll also allow his righteous indignation to flow when the time is right. The unabashed Conservative student is the stalwart defender of free thought and free speech, fighting his way through one of the most liberal institutions in American society, the public high school. The unabashed Conservative will raise up those below him, influence those around him, and carry truth like the shining light it is through the halls of the belly of the indoctrinating beast. I am the unabashed Conservative.

Already answered

meatbra.in — Tue, 2007-06-19 17:21

"Meatybites never said where HE served."

False. I have in fact answered your question.

But thank you for demonstrating, Sonnabend, that when you ask a question, you have no intention whatsoever of paying any attention to the answer.

Rational? Meatbrain?

Ogre (not verified) — Tue, 2007-06-19 07:34

Do NOT attempt to apply anything approaching logic or rationality to meatbrain. Those concepts are completely and totally foreign to him. Instead, he lives utterly in a world of his own creation inside his own mind, completely insulated from anything associated with reality. Any attempt at discussion with meatbrain will only end up with him defending his alternate reality by him repeating the same thing over and over and over again, sans logic.

Meatybites never said where

Sonnabend (not verified) — Tue, 2007-06-19 02:42

Meatybites never said where HE served.

Or if he ever did..or ever will.

So, rottenmeat, tell us all, please do..where and when did you serve?

And at age 18, Justin will do as he damned well pleases.

Reason for war

Big Dog (not verified) — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:56

Interestingly, people still harp on the WMD part of the reason for war. That was one of the reasons. If you read the joint resolution then you will see out of the 20 or so items listed, WMD is in about 3 of them. The majority had to do with ignoring the UN and had to do with terrorism, but don't let little things get in the way.

It also clearly states the reasons for action. These are the two authorizations:
(1) defend the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq; and

(2) enforce all relevant United Nations Security Council Resolutions regarding Iraq.

It goes on to say this specifically authorizes military action and is part of the war powers. So any donk who says they thought they were voting to negotiate or some other mindless prattle is either lying or not smart enough to be in office.

As for the military, Justin can do as he wishes and if he decides on ROTC in college, to attend West Point or to go right on duty he will serve his country in a greater capacity than meat loaf of any other twit who lives under the blanket of freedom afforded by better men than they.

I have a question, will the trolls now admit they were wrong for saying Bush lied about WMD when it is now obvious WMD was a small part of why we went in? Well, will you now admit you lied about Bush and that WMD was a small part? Come on Meat for Brains, the resolution is there and it clearly lists UN violations in far greater numbers so admit you were wrong. Has your mother ever caught you masturbating in the shower?

Analyzing...

Justin Higgins — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:53

I'd have to analyze the situation, and I never said I'd enlist the day I turned 18, I said I'd enlist at 18 should we still be in major operations. You're a damn idiot aren't you? I'm not enlisting under Hillary Clinton, or any other Democrat, case closed, because we wouldn't remain in major military operations. If I'm enlisting, I'm serving the country, not sitting around.

The dance floor gets smaller

meatbra.in — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:51

You turn 18 on January 12, 2008. At least we now know the date of your hypothetical enlistment.

And as far as the other prerequisite that must be fulfilled before you will deign to defend freedom: What comprises "major combat operations" in the mind of the unabashed conservative?

I'm fully standing

Justin Higgins — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:40

I'm fully standing behind my previous statement that I'll join the military at 18 should we still be conducting major combat operations. No waffling.

Leggo that Eggo

meatbra.in — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:37

I haven't told you to remove anything, Justin. I've asked you a direct, straightforward question, and you reply by waffling. You are afraid to stand behind your previous statement. You want a way out.

You dance divinely, Justin.

Not so simple

socketplug — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:20

You know Justin you can get out of this argument if you do some research and see that the current Iraq war (from pretty much everything I've read) is not really about "defending freedom" (then you wouldn't have to join since joining wouldn't be defending freedom).

The original reason for attacking Iraq was weapons of mass destruction:

All right, the basic facts we know: when Bush and Blair invaded Iraq, the reason was what they insistently called a 'single question.' That was repeated by Jack Straw, by Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice, everyone. 'Will Iraq eliminate its weapons of mass destruction?' That was the single question, that was the basis on which both Bush and Blair got authorization to use force.

Securing oil or creating a (as the administration sees) free market economy maybe:

During his fourteen month reign, Paul Bremer enacted exactly 100 executive orders that radically changed the political and economic landscape of Iraq. The majority of the CPA orders were in grave violation of international law which prompted the UN Security Council to pass a resolution on May 22, 2003, calling on the US to "comply fully with their obligations under international law including in particular the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and the Hague Regulations of 1907." Article 43 of the Hague Regulations (ratified by the US) requires that an occupying power "take all the measures in its power to restore, and ensure, as far as possible, public order and safety, while respecting the laws in force in the country."

Projecting military power perhaps (the five "enduring" bases, would the USA accept foreign military bases on the homeland), could be argued, but defending freedom?

But now that Iraq is "free"? Iraq Now Ranked Second Among World’s Failed States comments "Iraq suffered a third straight year of deterioration in 2006 with diminished results across a range of social, economic, political and military indicators. Iraq ranked fourth last year".

If...

Justin Higgins — Mon, 2007-06-18 21:00

...we are still conducting major combat operations, and if we are going to continue doing so. I will still be 18 AFTER the 2008 election, and that is an influential point. You don't get to tell me to remove the factors that are important, and that have been there from the beginning. This is my site, you answer to me.

It's a simple question...

meatbra.in — Mon, 2007-06-18 20:40

"I'm only 16, and I will enlist at 18 if we are still conducting major combat operations. I think nothing is more important than defending freedom, and I don't intend to be a hypocrite."

Are you going to enlist in the military when you turn eighteen, or not, Justin? No waffling, no spin: just answer yes or no.

Re: ROTC is service...

socketplug — Mon, 2007-06-18 20:09

Justin, you had me basically agreeing up until the last sentence. But what's with the "flopped" comment? A hypothetical: so you've decided to have a picnic with all your friends. Everything is ready, food check, car check, weather... now it's pouring rain. So since you don't want to "flop" on you decision to have a picnic you go anyway? You get drenched and the hamburger bun is mush by the time you get to eat it. Sweet! It's silly, people change their mind all the time when situations change. Flipping and flopping are just spin words (John Kerry) to mask and denigrate this normal, (usually) rational human behavior.

All right, Justin...

meat.brain — Mon, 2007-06-18 18:46

I'll not repeat the retarded, hypocritical, and NOT FUNNY phrase that Justin Higgins can use whenever he likes but no one else may use at all ever ever EVER!. That will eliminate one excuse for you to delete this comment. It will be interesting to see what excuse you manufacture next.

It was only a few months ago that you were enthusiastically looking forward to going to war against terrorists:

"I think nothing is more important than defending freedom, and I don't intend to be a hypocrite."

Why has going to college suddenly become more important to you than defending freedom?

Letting him...

Justin Higgins — Sun, 2007-06-17 21:32

I'll be letting him comment if he doesn't use his idiotic phrase in my comments section. He's completely spewing vile from his mouth and he's lying through his teeth about things I am saying. Until he's a tiny bit honest, I'm not letting him use my comments section as a pedestal. The truth of the matter is, my comments section gets more readers in a day than his blog gets in a month, and THAT is why he's writing here.

Re: Deleted the comment...

socketplug — Sun, 2007-06-17 21:16

But why delete the comment when you actually (in my opinion) could have shown meatbrain wrong?

Meatbrain is conflating "defending freedom" with military service. As if the only way to defend freedom is to enlist in the military. This is, of course, completely wrong. First there are many ways to "defend freedom" outside the military (does Dick Cheney not think he is defending freedom). Even paying taxes and supporting the "war effort" could be argued as "defending freedom" (as it was in WWII). And secondly, is every military adventure "defending freedom"? Where the Russians defending freedom when they invaded Afghanistan? Just because there are troops (of any country) on the ground does not inherently mean it is just.

good job. I speak out sometimes but its hard to overcome my own shyness. The best thing you can do is not let left wing views go unchecked.
